- Anne Dyke, music instructor at Olds Elementary School
Before moving back to North Carolina, I taught band and orchestra for 8 years in Texas and suburban Chicago. Due to the extreme cold weather in Chicago, I left for the sunny weather to finish a Doctorate degree in flute performance at Florida State University. I have spent many years teaching private flute lessons and continue to this day. I also have orchestral experience with the North Carolina Symphony and North Carolina Theater.
I received a Bachelors in Music Education from UNC-Chapel Hill, a Master's degree in flute performance from the University of Illinois and a Doctorate in flute performance from Florida State University.

Music classes are taught through activities that include singing, movement and dance, and using various instruments. My teaching uses the adopted music curriculum for the state of North Carolina called The Essential Standards for Music. This curriculum is designed for students to build on foundational skills as they move through the grade levels. Students receive music grades on their report card twice during the year – at the end of the second and fourth quarters. I use Standards Based Grading, just like your classroom teacher.
